Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty done by Dr. Jacobson located in Beverly Hills, CA

If you’re unhappy with the look of your eyes and eyelids, you may want to consider blepharoplasty in Beverly Hills, CA, from Dr. Joshua Jacobson. This specialized cosmetic procedure can rejuvenate the area around the eyes for a more youthful appearance. Blepharoplasty also works well for lifting sagging eyelids that obscure peripheral vision.

What Is Blepharoplasty?

Cosmetic eyelid problems like drooping lids and puffy bags under the eyes can cause people to look constantly fatigued. Blepharoplasty, also called an eyelid lift or eyelid surgery, is focused on correcting these issues.

This procedure is widely popular with men and women who are looking to restore a more rested and awake appearance. Functional blepharoplasty can also be performed for older patients whose drooping upper eyelids are affecting their vision.

Blepharoplasty surgery can include upper-eyelid surgery and lower-eyelid surgery, depending on the individual need of the patient. When both the upper and lower sets of eyelids are being addressed, this is known as quadrilateral blepharoplasty.

Am I a Good Candidate for Blepharoplasty?

Ideal candidates for this type of plastic surgery are searching for a long-lasting solution to droopy or puffy eyelids. If you want to revitalize your eyes and eyelids, an eyelid lift may be right for you. The best candidates are in good overall health.

Blepharoplasty should be avoided by those who are pregnant or nursing. Smokers will need to quit several weeks before their eyelid surgery, since smoking can negatively affect the health of the skin.

What Does Eyelid Surgery Involve?

On the day of the procedure, the patient will be given anesthesia, typically a combination of local anesthesia and sedation. This will ensure a comfortable and pain-free procedure.

Dr. Jacobson will start by making incisions. For upper blepharoplasty, the incision is made in the natural crease at the top of the upper eyelid. For lower blepharoplasty, two incision options can be utilized. The transcutaneous incision is made below the lash line on the lower eyelid, whereas the transconjunctival incision is created inside the lid.

Through the incision, Dr. Jacobson will reposition or remove fat deposits as needed to create a less puffy and more even appearance. He will also remove excess skin while tightening the muscles, lifting sagging lids.

Once this process is complete, Dr. Jacobson will close the incisions, typically with sutures or skin glue.

What to Expect During Blepharoplasty Recovery

After blepharoplasty surgery, you can expect to experience minimal pain and swelling at the treatment site. Patients may notice bruising in the eye region that can take around two weeks to ameliorate. Most of the swelling should subside within 10 to 14 days after surgery, and swelling should fully disappear after four to six months.

You can expect to return to your normal daily activities within about a week. Strenuous physical activities should be minimized for up to four weeks after surgery. You should also avoid direct sunlight; sunglasses can help with this while also protecting against wind and pollution.

Patients who received dissolvable sutures will not need to have them removed. If your sutures are not dissolvable, they must be removed during a follow-up appointment.

Blepharoplasty Results

While patients can see initial blepharoplasty results quickly, swelling will obscure results until around four to six weeks.

Blepharoplasty surgery provides long-lasting results for patients. However, it’s important to note that the natural process of aging can require future surgeries to correct.

How Much Does Blepharoplasty Cost?

The cost of blepharoplasty surgery may vary depending on the specific techniques utilized. Anesthesia fees can affect the total price, as can the amount of time needed to perform the surgery.
